My Hair Growth Journey: From Spanish Roads to Dr. Berg’s Fermented Rice Water

You know, I have a kind of dream, a metaphorical model, if you will. Somewhere on the sun-drenched roads of Spain, I’m driving a convertible with the top down, and the wind is playing with the hair on my head, not, unfortunately, gracefully gliding over my current bald spot. Perhaps this example seems a bit harsh, but it reflects my reality. And yes, I am very eager to change it. As you have probably guessed, this article is about my journey to restore hair growth and the methods I’ve tried.

In this post, I will share the results of the second part of my hair restoration experiment. We’ll summarize the findings and talk about potential plans for a third part. My ultimate goal: to have thick, soft, and silky hair on my head. So, let’s get down to business!

A quick overview of the experiment and its parts, just to keep things clear.

Part One: This part was dedicated to using biotin shampoos, and it gave a very noticeable effect. I am very happy with this result, but it is still far from the logical conclusion of the experiment.

Part Two: This part was a logical continuation of the first. In it, I am experimenting with fermented rice water.

So what’s the result after just over three months of using fermented rice water? I haven’t noticed any results yet. Everything is exactly as it was.

Despite this failed result, I will continue the experiment. I plan to use this water for about eight months. Why such a long period? The results from the biotin shampoos appeared after about eight months. That’s why I’m giving this very smelly remedy the same chance.

If there is no desired effect, then, as I saw on Dr. Berg’s channel, there is another remedy: fermented onion water. Using onion water will become the third part of my experiment. I truly hope that the second part gives me the results I need and the third will not be necessary.

In any case, the goal — to restore hair growth — has been set. I am methodically, step by step, moving towards it. And, as always, I will share the results on this blog.

How I Make and Apply Fermented Rice Water (Dr. Berg’s Recipe vs. My Method)

Here is the recipe from Dr. Berg’s video, followed by my personal adjustments, based on his recommendations.

Dr. Berg’s Recommended Recipe:

  • Initial preparation: Pour two cups of rice into a bowl and add four cups of water. Stir the rice with your fingers to clean it, then drain the water.
  • Soaking: To the remaining two cups of rice, add two cups of clean water. Stir slightly and let it sit at room temperature for two hours.
  • Fermentation: Pour the resulting liquid into a glass jar and cover it so that air can still get in. Let the solution ferment for two days. During this time, microorganisms will produce beneficial nutrients.
  • Storage: After two days, remove the cover, seal the jar with a lid, and refrigerate. The cold will slow down the bacteria, allowing the solution to be stored for longer.
  • Application: Dr. Berg recommends applying this water twice a week, for twenty minutes until the scalp is completely dry, then rinsing.

My Personal Method:

I changed the process a bit because I wanted a more intense fermentation. I rinse the rice (two cups), then pour four cups of water over it and let it sit for two to four hours. After that, I pour the water into a jar and let it ferment at room temperature for up to two weeks. I’ve noticed that the longer it ferments, the stronger the smell gets. After this, I put it in the fridge.

As for application, I apply this water to my head, wetting both my hair and scalp, while gently massaging it. I wait for an hour, during which time my head and hair dry completely. Afterward, I wash my head with the biotin shampoo. I use this water twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
