The Secret to Moist Baking: Healthy Applesauce Oil Substitute
Looking for a simple way to make your favorite cakes, pies, and muffins incredibly moist, low-fat, and healthy? The answer is homemade, unsweetened applesauce! It perfectly replaces some or all of the oil or butter in your baking, significantly lowering the fat content while ensuring a tender texture. It only takes about 20 minutes to prepare.
Ingredients (Unsweetened Homemade Applesauce):
- Apples (tart or sweet-tart varieties work best): 4–5 medium
- Water: 50–100 ml (or

? Step-by-Step Recipe
- Prep: Wash the apples thoroughly, peel them, and remove the core. Chop the flesh into large chunks.
- Cooking: Place the chopped apples in a saucepan with a heavy bottom. Add water (
if apples are juicy, up to
if dry). Cover the pot. - Simmer: Simmer over medium-low heat for
minutes until the apples are very soft and easily break apart. - Puree: Remove from heat. Drain any excess liquid. Use an immersion blender or food processor to blend the mixture until perfectly smooth and uniform.
- Cooling: Allow the applesauce to cool completely to room temperature. Crucial: Always add cool applesauce to batter.
